Simba gives into his kind nature and grabs Scar by the mane and pulls his uncle up to safety. The old king then supposedly admits defeat to Simba, telling him that he is now the rightful King. Although Simba is willing to let Scar fall to his death, Scar reminds Simba that he is no murderer, and is better than him. Scar cries for help again, begging for mercy. He sees Scar clinging onto the edge of Pride Rock who is hanging above the fire below, dodging death. Suddenly Simba hears a cry for help from below.

"Help me Simba! Please, Help me! -Scar begging Simba to save him from falling to his death. Scar leaps toward Simba preparing to murder him but just as Simba is about to die, he uses his hind legs to shove Scar off of him causing Scar to fall off the edge of Pride Rock. Scar then mockingly states that the "cat is out of the bag," and that it will be 'their little secret.' Before his attempt to off Simba, Scar says, "Goodnight sweet prince." referencing the Shakespearean play ' Hamlet' (to which the film is based on). Simba reacts in shock, before angrily glaring at Scar. Then, while Simba is on his back, Scar walks towards Simba and gloats about how his battle was almost as easy as killing Simba's father, Mufasa, revealing to the young lion that he is responsible for Mufasa's death.

During their battle, Scar viciously claws Simba in the face, and the impact is so great, that Simba falls backward, dangerously close to the ledge.
